Andrew Ellery

Social Care/Community Work Professioinal

Although Andrew is only in his early 20's he has a mass of experience both in his chosen career as a Social Care/Community Work Professional (for which he got very high grades) and in media where he has already appeared many times on television, written and commented for trade magazines and has also done public speaking.

Andrew works with teenagers, the LGBT community and people with disabilities.

He is engaging, genuine, caring, warm, likeable and enthusiastic.

From experiencing difficulties whilst at school it didn't take Andrew long to realise that he could be in a position to support others facing a variety of difficulties. After school Andrew undertook a diploma in social care where he really began to develop an interest in people and society.

Achieving good grades from college he was awarded an entrance scholarship from his chosen university. By his own admission studying social work, he felt, was an opportunity to make a true difference to the hidden issues that so many people face. As well as studying he has gained varied experience working with some of societies most vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

Through dedication, persistance and by working solidly Andrew's work has taken him in different directions and enabled him to build an impressive CV. Andrew firmly believes that every opportunity is a chance to learn and develop which has placed him in a position where himself and others have high expectations of him throughout his career.

With every step he has taken towards achieving a career in social work he has strived towards excellence. With a professional attitude and diplomatic persona Andrew is driven towards achieving social justice and attempting to use social work/care skills in a way that has gone relatively untested- through the media.

Andrew has actively sought out work within the media as he firmly believes that raising awareness of social and personal issues we face daily is key to empowering people to make positive changes to their lives. Why not attempt this with a large audience?

He started writing a monthly column in 'Professional Social Work' magazine as a method to provide his chosen profession with a student voice, focussing not only on his learning but also the wider relevant social and political issues. He has also contributed to other professional magazines. At the time when the Government announced the budget cuts to public services, Andrew stepped it up a gear and contributed to productions by both the BBC and ITV to put across his views in a way that was realistic but also stood up for the rights of those who use public services.

Although seemingly a soft touch, Andrew is not afraid to speak his mind and stand up to what he thinks is right; and indeed what he thinks is best to protect societies vulnerable. Advocating for vulnerable people, not shying away from all things political and with great knowlege and skill he already has the ability to speak up and articulate himself in a way that is easily understood and incredibly professional.
